If your iPhone is totally unresponsive and force quitting an app did not help, try this.
Force a reset of your iPhone by pressing both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds. Your iPhone would take a while to boot up. However, your data and settings should remain intact.

If the app you’ve run has become unresponsive or has completely frozen, you can force quit the app by pressing the Home button for atleast 7 seconds. this should force exit the app.
This didn’t help? If your iPhone is still unresponsive try resetting.

This key press combination allows you to wipe your phone completely and return it to the factory defaults comdition. This is different from the *#7370# combination as this wipes out all data on the phone.
Keypress combination: Switch off the phone and then press and hold Call key (Green key) + * key + 3 key + power button for a couple of seconds. You can release the power button (while holding the other 3 buttons) after the phone starts powering up.
Note: No warning is displayed before your data is wiped out.
